Trains in Bosnia-Herzegovina
The train network in Bosnia-Herzegovina is still expanding, but there are good connections between key cities in comfortable trains.
UPDATE 2018: There are currently no trains running on the line Zagreb-Sarajevo. It's unclear when the trains will start running again. If you're planning to visit Bosnia-Herzegovina, you'll have to travel there by bus or by car.
TRAIN TYPES IN BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

Two railway companies operate in different regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
ZFBH (Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine)
Operates in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Includes the main line Doboj – Sarajevo – Ploče.
ZRS (Željeznice Republike Srpske)
Operates in the Republika Srpska
Includes the line Doboj – Banja Luka – Novi Grad.
Bikes are not allowed on trains in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Popular Connections in Bosnia-Herzegovina

- International routes
The most popular route is from the capital Sarajevo to Mostar.
The train used to continue to Ploče on the coast of Croatia, but this part has been suspended by the Croatian Railways.
Sarajevo to Novi Grad: 6.5 hours.
The international connections to Zagreb, Ploče (Croatia), Belgrade (Serbia) and Budapest (Hungary) have been temporarily suspended due to construction works.
Reservations for trains in Bosnia-Herzegovina
Reservations for regional trains are compulsory.
The fee to make these reservations is €1.50 (BAM 3, the local currency).
The cost of the reservation itself depends on the distance travelled.
For international and night trains advance reservation may be required.
